My Story
I am a Chiropractor today because I was blessed to be a part of a family that embraced the chiropractic lifestyle. As I studied in school I knew my niche would involve the medical field, chiropractic was the only logical choice for me. You could say that it chose me.  I knew from age ten that this was what I wanted to do.  I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have and the skills I have learned that allow me to change the lives of others each day.

The principle is simple, your body is designed to heal itself.  When your body is functioning as God designed it to, you have an amazing ability to be healthy.  In Chiropractic we call this “innate intelligence.” You do not have to think about millions of functions happening every second inside your body.  This is all controlled by your nerve system which is the master control system of your body.  When stresses in our lives cause a shift in the spinal column, this can block life from flowing over your nerves to all cells in your body.  Over time this leads to sickness and disease. This is why proper spinal care is critical to both a child’s and adult’s development.

I have one goal in my office, to remove this blockage in nerve flow so that your body will work perfectly. It is really that simple.  The body knows what it has to do, its power just has to be unleashed.  The true benefit of Chiropractic care comes from regular adjustments over time. When you have a healthy nerve system that is able to properly communicate with all the parts of your body, you are better able to handle the challenges of life because you are able to adapt and recover at your best.  Chiropractic serves as a beautiful bridge to help you reach your health goals and function at your full potential.

“The doctor of the future will give no medicin but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”    -Thomas Edison

What is a Vertebral Subluxation?

Vertebral Subluxation results when your spine is shifted away from its normal healthy position and losses its ability properly move. This places pressure or stress on your nerve system and results in an interruption to the vital nerve messages that run your entire body; causing most of the unwanted health problems that people battle with every day.  Physical, chemical, mental or even emotional stresses in your environment can overwhelm your body’s defenses.  When environmental stresses are greater than your body is capable of adapting to, this will produce vertebral subluxation.  Subluxations leave your body in a weakened state. In essence, your body starts to shut down in self-defense getting slower and sicker with every moment and your nervous system becomes more and more compromised.

Most people judge their health by the presence or absence of symptoms.  Symptoms may occur as soon as a vertebral subluxation is present.  However, in most cases, a person will have subluxation for months or even years without knowing it.  Only 10% of your entire nerve system carries or perceives pain-this is simply your warning system.  This means that up to 90% of your nervous system can be heavily stressed without a sign or a symptom.  This is why vertebral subluxation is referred to as the ‘silent killer’ because there are usually no early warning signs- or the warning signs are never related to being a problem with the spine.

The First Chiropractic Adjustment:

Treatment of the spine was still crude and misunderstood until Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer discovered the specific spinal adjustment.  D.D. defined Chiropractic as, “The Philosophy, Art and Science of things natural.  A system for adjusting the segments of the spinal column, by hand, for the correction of the cause of Dis-ease.”  He was also responsible for the earliest development of the philosophy of Chiropractic and provided the first definition for vertebral subluxation.

On September 18, 1895, D.D. Palmer was working late in his office when a janitor, Harvey Lillard, began working nearby.  A noisy fire engine passed by outside the window and Palmer was surprised to see that Lillard didn’t react at all.  He approached the man and tried to strike up a conversation. He soon realized Lillard was deaf.

Palmer managed to communicate with the man, and learned that he had normal hearing for most of his life. However, he had been over in a cramped, stooping position, and felt something “pop” in his back.  When he stood up, he realized he couldn’t hear.  Palmer deduced that the two events- the popping in his back and the deafness- had to be connected.

He ran his hand carefully down Lillard’s spine and felt one of the vertebra was not in its normal position. “I reasoned that if that vertebra was replaced, the man’s hearing should be restored,” he wrote in his notes afterward. “With this object in view, a half hour’s talk persuaded Mr. Lillard to allow me to replace it. I racked it into position by using the spinous process as a lever, and soon the man could hear as before.”

“I was deaf 17 years and I expected to always remain so, for I had doctored a great deal without any benefit. I had long ago made up my mind to not take any more ear treatments, for it did me no good.  Last January Dr. Palmer told me that my deafness came from an injury in my spine. This was new to me; but it is a fact that my back was injured at the time I went deaf.  Dr. Palmer treated me on the spine; in two treatments I could hear quite well. That was eight months ago. My hearing remains good.” ~ Harvey Lillard
